Local Services Ads are usually the fastest way for a Toronto HVAC company to get calls, and also the easiest place to overpay. Google lets you set a bid per lead and ranks you partly on how you behave once the phone rings. We run the account so the bid matches your job values and your behaviour earns the position.
We're a marketing service, not an HVAC contractor or an answering service. Your team takes the calls and does the work.
What Local Services Ads are
They're the boxed listings with a Google Verified badge that often sit above regular ads on searches like "furnace repair near me". According to Google's Canadian getting-started page, you pay for leads related to your business and services, HVAC is one of the listed categories, and the page describes lead credits for Canadian advertisers.
Google's ranking page names three groups of factors:
- your bid, the most you'll pay for a lead
- how likely you are to produce a lead, which includes responsiveness, missed calls, what the customer searched for, how relevant your services and bio are, and whether message and booking leads are switched on
- profile quality: rating, number of reviews, average response time, good images, completed verification checks and other business details
In Toronto, where many companies serve the same postal codes, the gap between two similar profiles often comes down to the second and third groups. That's good news: you can't outspend every rival, but you can out-answer most of them.
Who it's for
LSA works for Toronto HVAC companies that:
- can answer calls quickly during business hours, and have a plan for evenings and weekends
- know roughly what a booked repair, tune-up or replacement is worth
- want calls in weeks, not months
- have, or can earn, a steady flow of genuine Google reviews
It's a poor fit for a company that can't take more work during peak weeks. Paying for leads you can't serve damages your responsiveness and your reputation at the same time.
What's included
- Account setup or audit: verification steps, licence or business registration details, service categories and service area.
- Job-type selection. We switch on the job types that match your margin and switch off the ones that bring calls you don't want.
- Service-area choices by district. If your crews are based in Etobicoke, paying for leads in Malvern may not make sense in January traffic. Our areas page explains how drive times shape this.
- Bid setting from arithmetic. We work out a ceiling per lead from your gross profit and close rate, then adjust it by season.
- Weekly lead review, lead feedback, and credit tracking.
- Response habits: hours that match your real coverage, call routing, message replies and a review request routine after each job.
- Coordination with search ads so the two don't bid against each other for the same customer.
Timeline
- Week 1: account audit or setup, verification paperwork started.
- Weeks 2–4: verification completes (timing depends on Google), job types and areas set, first leads.
- Month 2: first bid adjustments based on real cost per lead and close rate.
- Ongoing: seasonal changes before the heating and cooling peaks, weekly lead review, monthly report.
How results are measured
We track cost per lead and, more importantly, cost per booked job. A worked example: if your bid averages $90 per lead and you book four in ten, each booked job costs about $225 in ad spend. If a typical booked job in that category earns $600 gross profit, the account is healthy. If it earns $200, it isn't, and we change job types or bids. We also report answered-call rate and response time, because those feed your ranking.
Mistakes to avoid
- Leaving the default service area. Toronto plus the whole 905 can mean paying for leads two hours away in rush hour.
- Hours that promise more than you deliver. Listing 24/7 coverage and then missing night calls hurts the very factors Google ranks on.
- Ignoring lead feedback. Wrong-category and out-of-area leads add up over a winter.
- Asking for reviews only when you remember. A review request after every completed job beats a burst once a year.
- Running LSA and search ads with no shared plan. You can end up paying twice for one homeowner.
Our Local Services Ads playbook goes deeper into setup and seasonal bidding. For plan costs, see pricing. If you already run LSA and want a second opinion, call, text or email and we'll review the account during the free trial.
Frequently asked questions
How are Local Services Ads different from regular Google Ads?
Regular search ads charge when someone clicks. Local Services Ads charge for leads related to your business, such as calls and messages, and they can show a Google Verified badge next to your rating. Many Toronto HVAC companies run both, with different jobs for each.
Can we get credit for bad leads?
Google's Canadian help pages mention lead feedback and lead credits. We review your leads every week, give feedback on ones that don't fit, and track credits so you can see what you paid for real enquiries.
Why did our LSA position drop?
Google says ranking depends on your bid, how likely you are to produce a lead, and your profile quality, including responsiveness, missed calls, reviews and response time. A drop usually traces back to slower answering, a run of missed calls or a weaker review pace.
Do you answer the calls for us?
No. We don't run an answering service. We help you set hours, call routing and message replies so that someone on your team responds quickly.
